Corfu, one of the most enchanting neighborhoods in Europe, is a place of wonderful contrasts and a crossroad of cultures and colors. Located in the Ionian Sea, this island is a popular holiday destination in Greece, known for its cosmopolitan Old Town, pristine sandy beaches, and beautiful landscapes. Corfu has a rich history, as Venetians, English, French, and Russians have all left their mark on the island.
In the Old Town, you will feel like an aristocrat walking along the elegant Liston and Spianada Square. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old Town is home to stately buildings with neoclassical influences, such as the Palace of St. Michael and St. George. The famous alleyways of Campiello will make you feel like a star in a period movie.
Our tour begins with a visit to the stunning Kanoni – Mouse Island, where you can take in two trademark views of Corfu’s other islands. The diminutive Pontikonisi, known as Mouse Island, is just large enough to hold the Pantokrator Monastery, while the famous Vlacherna islet, with its 17th-century monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. We’ll spend 30 minutes here before continuing on our tour.
Our next stop is Paleokastritsa, one of the most popular beach resorts on Corfu, located on the north-west coast. The beautiful coastal scenery winds around a series of small bays, offering breathtaking views. You’ll have free time to swim or even take a small cruise to admire the amazing caves. Nearby, in the picturesque village of Liapades, is the famous BELLA VISTA, known for having the best view in Europe. We’ll take a 1-hour lunch break here before continuing on our journey.
As we head to the north-east coast, our next stop is the charming fishing village of Kassiopi. Located around the harbor, this village offers a great spot to enjoy a cold beer or a fresh-made local ice cream. Across from Kassiopi is Albania, just 2km away.
Our last stop, but certainly not least, is the beautiful Achilleion Palace, located 10 km south of the city of Corfu on the edge of Gastouri village. Built by Empress Elizabeth of Austria, who became known as the “sad queen Sissy,” this palace is a great museum and one of the most famous royal palaces in Europe. The Empress decorated the palace with pieces of art from Greek mythology and history. The visit to Achillio in Corfu is an experience that will fill you with images and feelings of love. We’ll spend 45 minutes here before heading back.
